Dr. Anne Khademian

In October 2020, Dr. Anne Khademian became the second executive director and first woman to lead ºÚÁÏÉçÇø. Located in Montgomery County, USG expands access to respected University System of Maryland programs, providing a convenient regional campus where transfer and graduate students, working adults, and other learners gain clear paths to degree completion and career opportunities. Dr. Khademian also serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the USM.
Under her leadership, USG is advancing efforts to deepen partnerships across universities, government, business, and community organizations. Dr. Khademian guides USG’s work to foster innovation, strengthen learner pathways, and support regional economic growth.
In her role ºÚÁÏÉçÇø, Dr. Khademian brings more than three decades of experience in higher education, public administration, and organizational change. Before joining USG, Dr. Khademian spent 17 years at Virginia Tech, where she served as a presidential fellow, professor, and director of the School of Public and International Affairs.
An active civic and business leader, Dr. Khademian serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation and as Immediate Past Chair and Economic Development Committee Chair of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
A fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, Dr. Khademian is a respected scholar and the author of three books on public management and organizational leadership. In 2023, she was named one of Bethesda Magazine’s Women Who Inspire and was a finalist for the March of Dimes Heroines of Washington awards.
Dr. Khademian holds a Ph.D. in political science and government from Washington University in St. Louis. She earned a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Michigan State University. A former collegiate athlete, she competed in cross country and track at Michigan State and was inducted into the university's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.
